Loving A Child in Crisis

Lord, help me love them in spite of their actions,
In spite of their mistakes.
It hurts my heart so much to see them messing up.
I feel so confused as to what to do, struggling to find Your direction.
I want to hold them tight, like when they were little.
And, forgive me Lord, I also just want to smack them silly,
I want to push them away to ease my own pain,
And I want to hold them close and try to make it all better.
But I can’t make it all better.
I cannot fix this or smooth things over for my dear one.
For I must remember that it is in those rough times… those crises of life…
that we look in the mirror of our life and come to grips with who we are,
And where our choices have taken us.

There in the midst of this giant wake-up call,
Oh God, help them find you!
Strip away the pretense and the temporal existence.
Open their eyes to see who they are in relation to You.
Help them see you – maybe for the first time, or maybe with fresh vision.
Help them discover who they are….who they are not…and who they were meant to be.

Lord, I entrust them to you.
