Have you ever wondered where the simple joys of life can be found ?

An e.mail from a dear friend, a phone call, a surprise visit, a beautiful card drawn by your child, a bird singing, flowers blooming, the waves dancing, the wind blowing, a lovely smile, a rose, a song …

Once on a return journey from my hometown with my family, we were waiting at a particular road junction for a scheduled transport. The night was dark and cold. A dense fog enveloped the air around us, the pine trees were silhouetted against the night sky.

I could not help breathing in the cool air. I wanted to revel in the joy of the moment and hold the treasure of this memory in my heart forever.

Close to this junction , there were several houses on one side . I could clearly see a woman cooking by the fireplace, built of log wood. In the stark night, this scene tugged at my heart the most. I felt an intense emotion watching this woman bent over the fire wood, cooking for her dear family. Despite, the weather and her humble dwelling, the joy and radiance in her face was clearly evident.

It was then, that I realized that the true joys of life lie in such special and simple moments. I have never felt such happiness while walking through a plush shopping mall with all its glitz and glamour, as I felt that night in this serene place watching this simple scene. I discovered where the simple joys of life can be found.

My mind was drawn back to that fateful night when Christ was born in a humble stable. It must have been a similar winter night, with the shepherds grazing in the field. Truly, it was a moment of joy when the Saviour came into this world. Yet, he chose to be born in a simple manger.

We should always remember that real joy lies in simple and humble things, this is the joy that satisfies our souls and fills us completely. We do not have to look any further. So, let us try to search in our daily lives for such simple joys.
