When God Meets Us Where We Are

I was driving home from work recently after a particularly stressful day. Traffic was at a standstill and had been for a good 30 minutes. I was going over in my mind all the “stupid” people I’d had to deal with that day and their ridiculous requests (I am a Purchasing Agent for a large jewelry chain). Funny how we do that isn’t it? We have all these scenarios in our thoughts of how it could’ve been, what I should’ve said - or not said.

Then there were all the “stupid” people on the freeway that were doing anything and everything they could to NOT drive friendly. There were hundreds of cars barely moving and everybody in them just wanted to get home.

Anyway, I can safely say I was definitely “in the flesh.” Then this song came on the radio and all of a sudden, Jesus was right there in the car with me. It is a song taken from Psalm 3 and that is the name of the song as well. It’s sung by Salvador. You’ve just got to hear this song! God made it my very own worship song that day.

During that beautiful song, God let me know that He WILL deliver me from all the trials that life can shove down my throat. I was swept away to another place - a place where there was only me and Jesus. By the end of the song I was begging for forgiveness and praising God all at the same time with tears rolling down my face. His encounter with me in my car was powerful. Now I know it wasn’t the song, that caused God to meet me where I was - although it is beautiful. God is just like that. When he sees His children anxious, frustrated or in despair, He lovingly comes to meet us - wherever we are….in the most unlikely times. Times when we least expect Him, He shows up in that gentle way of His and He changes our whole perspective.

My attitude just a minute before was lousy and all of a sudden His Spirit nudged my heartstrings and said “You have lived this day without Me. You have not called out to me one time and I have been here waiting and wanting to comfort you and give you My peace.” It brought me to tears…..

Why is it that we can’t always be at peace? Is it because we take my eyes off Him and focus on the drudgery of day to day living? Of course it is. He is always with us. He is more than ready at all times to give us His comfort. We just have to be spiritually aware.

I long for the day when Jesus will meet me at the heavenly gate. There will be no more sorrow, no more pain, no more tears and guess what? No more traffic! Oh what a day that will be! Be blessed in His comfort.
