Healing
Floating across the water
not making a sound-
Oh swan, with your stately carriage
And white downy plumage;
God has blessed you with such royal attire.
Not long ago, when you were small,
Your attire was not so fine;
Grace and beauty shunned you
And held you at arms' length
As you moved your gawky frame along.
An "ugly duckling" you'll always be,
A misfit from the start,
But folks who belittle you will never know
Is what is in God's heart.
The Lord in all His knowing
Created you to be
A beloved and cherished creation,
But shrouded in mystery.
Little by little,
So subtle, so quietly,
the passage of time reveals
A miraculous transformation
Within and without;
Gawkiness is replaced
By an unmistakable grace
And sense of peace and rest.
Your feathers, oncedull and brown,
Are transformed to lovely white plumage.
Oh that I could be more like you,
So peaceful, calm, at rest;
To quiet myself and hear my Father's voice
Speaking so clearly saying,
"Press on my child, follow me,
I will lead you on.
Trust in me with all your heart;
Remember the promises,
Words of hope and restoration
Are yours at the proper time."
I am not yet that graceful swan
Gliding on s peaceful lake.
I am a combination of
Both girl and woman,
Caught in the in-betweens
Of adolescence and womanhood;
Not belonging to either world,
Yet longing to step into true maturity
Of thought, act and emotion.
My prayer, O Lord,
Is that You will help me
To find new meaning and purpose
In my life.
Give me understanding and courage
to follow after You
In search of my life.
I struggle against the limitations
Of my disabilitiies;
Longing to be productive,
And no longer shackled by them,
To no longer feel
Like a misfit among strangers.
Let me truly be what You
Have created me to be.
