He entered my life when I was a boy
I was proud of my new found friend
And in the beginning I was filled with such joy
Then soon it would come to an end

The world around me had come into play
There were important things to do
I could visit with him some other day
Maybe while feeling blue

Thinking that once in my heart He would stay
I could live as I chose and move on
But as years passed by I slipped farther away
With the presence of Him, all but gone

The life I was living seemed to be well
Outside pleasures were getting me by
But my heart was becoming an empty shell
I was living an everyday lie

As things would go wrong I was quick to give blame
Where was he when this happened to me?
The anger I felt, would soon turn to shame
For I knew He was still walking with me

At times I would ask a favor for myself
I would think of my friend now and then
But when the day passed, He was back on the ‘shelf’
Until I would need him again

He has so much patience, He sees through it all
He was waiting when I hit the dead end
He filled me with love, picked me up from the fall
My Lord and Redeemer… my Friend
