Faith
When I was small, my Mum used to tell me about Saint Anthony. 'He is the finder of things', she would say and then she taught me this prayer;
Dear St. Anthony,
Please come around,
Something is lost
And cannot be found.
I must mention my Mum was born in Cork, Irish Republic in the year 1912.
As enmeshed in the Irish culture, she would turn your hair with ghost stories!
Many a night I spent, [being the youngest of five children} praying to God for protection from all ghosts, either visible or invisible, whilst gripping on for dear life, my sister who shared the same bed as I did.
So, being so small, I took the prayer of St Anthony as being just another story.
Fast forward to 1971, I met a man who would be my future husband.
He gave me a gift of a gold charm bracelet and I was delighted by this gift!
In 1972,we married, and had three children.
During this time, I lost the bracelet! I was dumbfounded! I called not only on St. Anthony, but any Saint who would listen!
In 1980, we decided to emigrate to Australia, from Essex, England.
We arrived on 9th September 1980, our furniture would soon follow. Which it did, in November.
Seven years went by and one day, I found we were short of cash!
You know how you think you've a few coins perhaps, which have disappeared down the inside of your chairs?
Well, this happened to us.
I overturned one chair and heard a distinctive 'clink'. I got a knife and cut a little fabric on the base of the chair, thinking, here are a few coins!
To my disbelief, and joy, this blackened piece of jewellery emerged!
It was my charm bracelet.I could not believe it!
Ever since then, I recite the prayer my Mum taught me, and every single time, I find the missing item!
So I thought I would write a little verse to honour this Saint who has never let me down!
You are one Saint who stands by me,
In moments searching,
I call out your name.
Something I've lost,
Thus can't be seen.
'Tis your name I implore,
Then, to my surprise,
I find the item I've been searching for!
Even today, our son called to borrow an item. We searched high and low, then accused him of having it in his home!
[He is known for not bringing borrowed stuff back].
I simply said the prayer to St. Anthony, and I found the item!We then apologized!
I truly cannot explain this phenomenon, all I can tell you is that, obviously through belief, I find missing items!

Kindred spirits here! My mother-in-law introduced me to St. Anthony long ago, and he's found each and every item I have needed help finding. Many items were NOT THERE when I looked prior to talking to St. Anthony, and afterwards, they were right in front of my sight. Very eerie at times, but I am a true believer! The dynamics are: ask St. Anthony, who asks around the heavenlies where the lost items are. He locates them and sets them where we can find them. Not magic...faith!
Thanks for sharing this very practical insight that has worked so well in your life; my Christian background hasn't included the ministry of Saints in this sense, but I hope I am open to learning.
