Prophecy

dwell
with the lamb,
and the leopard
shall
lie down
with the

"You still TALKIN' to me?"

"I never stopped, child."

"Yeah, but......."

"Who Am I,
beloved?"

"I dunno, LORD!
They say You know,
like: EVERYTHING!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Hey, LORD?
Is it TRUE our PETS
aren't gonna get
RAPTURED,
EITHER?"

[PATIENT SIGH.]

"Don't Ya think
that's kinda MEAN?"

"Who AM I, child?"

"Eh......the One Who,
eh, gave me FLAT FEET?
'n REAL bad EYES?
(Yell up at the air vent.)
And, ACID REFLUX?"

[NOD.]

"WHY, LORD?
WHY?"

"Because, child."

"I don't UNDERSTAND?
Why would that give You
PLEASURE?
(Squint.)
(Glasses slip crookedly on nose.)
I don't GET it?"

"Who AM I, child?"

"Eh.....the One Who's
gonna demand a PET deposit,
from everybody....in HEAVEN?"

[SIGH.]
"Oy."

"The problem is, Lord;
everybody says we not
supposed to ask You questions
like that. But, HEY!
I SAY, why NOT?"

[PATIENT PAUSE.]
"I know, My precious."

"HEY! I thought we
were supposed to ask
Ya, like....... ANYTHING?"

[NOD.]
"Yes, child."

"Ya think it's because
I'm JEWISH?
Is THAT WHY I figure
I can get real SASSY
with You?"

"It is a Mystery,
My precious."

"Yeah, LORD!
You BET!
You SAID IT!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Hey, LORD?
Ya STILL haven't
answered my QUESTION!
Are the PETS gonna
get RAPTURED,
or
NOT?"

[SILENCE.]

"Ya ain't gonna
ANSWER me,
ARE YOU?"

[AGGRAVATING SILENCE.]

"Well, I'm still PROTESTING,
Lord! This isn't the END
of it!"

"Yes, My beloved."

"YEAH!"

"That is...."

"WHAT, LORD?"

"Until I say,
[PAUSE.]
