Encouragement
Sometimes when people make decisions and take action accordingly, there are consequences they may not like that they may have to face later on as a result. Consequences also come from not having made a decision and taken action. Quite often the consequences are likened to birds. When we do something to delay the consequences, we shoo the birds away. But sooner or later, they come to roost back with us, and we can no longer delay the results of the choices we made earlier. Putting off a decision is, in itself, an active decision to shoo the birds away. But they come back and sometimes it's too late to shoo them off again.
For many years in high school I heard the Gospel, as presented by Rollin Wilson, a tireless crusader for teen souls. Rollin has been sharing the Gospel message through Young Life meetings for over four decades. But I kept putting it off, shooing the birds away. I was given the chance to decide for Christ at many a time, but was not willing. When I finally did make a decision to turn my life over, it was after a three-day relentless pursuit. I had been at the Young Life Ranch in Colorado, and was considering salvation, but just didn't want to. I was tired of the question being put to me in my head, so I finally gave up and did. It was a very hard decision to make, but, once made, it gave me immense peace.
Had I stayed away long enough, I might have died without having made the decision that has changed my life. The birds of consequence were the difficulties I felt from resisting my decision time and time again. But some people die in car wrecks, heart attacks, and any number of other events that take their lives-and their chances to decide- away.
No one knows how many days are appointed him or her. Deal with the consequences of a bad decision by avoiding them altogether. Don't shoo the birds away, shoot em!
Tell me what you think, I'm just thinkin out loud!
