In this world, we speak of people, places and events that are, have been and will be. People come and go, events happen, and places exist and some cease to exist. All three tenses come into play in the description of creation.

But when it comes to the Creator, God, only one tense fits. Sometimes, for support of our faith, we speak of something He did in the past tense, but that is an event, part of creation. The person of God is always only in the present tense. We have no reference to Him any other way in terms of time. We create idols and they have a beginning of our making, but the one true God was never created.

A very sarcastic film by James Broughton seeks to refute the existence of God by starting off with the line "in the beginning, it was already there". As a created evidence of His presence, it was not, but He was. What the film tries to say is creation always existed, which is an absurdity. Creation got created at some point, but when and by whom? Its not creation otherwise, it's God Himself and He is not His creation. Created beings by definition cannot create themselves.

The God who spoke to Moses called Himself "I Am". What utter unmitigated gall! Unless it's really true! Natural man would call that name a statement of egotism gone mad, because his mind cannot conceive the Creator as He is. It takes a step of acceptance and faith for the mind of man to conceive a being bigger than he is. God has to impart Himself in some form to such a limited mental capacity to get it to accept the larger reality.

Toward the end of the year, some men celebrate that imparting of God to men, allowing them to accept Him and receive Him as their God. We call that celebration Christmas!

The God who is is there for us.
