Exodus 3:12

Holy Spirit, Rabbi, teach us from your book today-
Amen

Moses wasn't sure why God called Him in this book of Exodus. It happened pretty fast, He saw God's face in the burning bush and if that weren't frightening enough, God called him to deliver His people.

God knew all along that His people were in trouble, and He very well could have rescued them with His right hand, right then and there without calling a man to do what He could do Himself. But for whatever reason, God used Moses and his brother Aaron to show His glory to the people, Israel, and later to the Egyptians, who I'm sure, at the end realised that their gods would not save them!

I think God led the Israelites on the scenic path to freedom, because as the previous paragraph mentioned, God is perfectly capable of rescuing His people Himself! However, He wanted to not only give His people freedom, but a lesson. He wanted them to truly know what it meant to be free, and in order for one to truly taste freedom, I believe one has to truly taste slavery. And I think for this weeks verse to ring true in ones heart, one has to walk through seemingly endless valleys and deserts. It is only then that we experience the nearness of God and the fruits of the Promised Land!

God is the Redeemer. But the bible also calls Him a teacher and a father, and both of these roles call for Him to teach us and prepare our hearts. The reason the Passover is such a special celebration is because of the turmoil that preceded it. The reason that freedom tasted so sweet, was because slavery tasted so bitter. And the reason that Moses and Aaron and their people knew Gods nearness was because they so desperatly needed it!!! For it is only in the valley that we need to look up.

As this Passover season draws near, take time to remember the faithfulness and help of Your God-the one who walked you through each valley, rejoiced with you on each mountain, gave you your bread one day at a time, and no matter what He asked you to do, or will ask you to do, remember His response in Exodus 3:12-I will be with you.
