I recall a flight I took from Indy down to Florida. When we left the airport, the skies were dark, gloomy and rain was falling. As the airplane rose up from the ground, the rain clouds surrounded the jet. Soon, we were sailing above the menacing clouds. To my surprise, and delight, the sun was shining brightly overhead. What a difference a few thousand feet can make to your view!

Joseph was a man with heavenly vision. God had revealed to him in a dream that he was going to be an important man. However, it was shortly after this revelation that the brothers of Joseph turned on him and sold him to slave traders. Joseph wound up in Egypt working for an official of the government. But trouble continued to follow him as he was thrown into prison after being falsely accused of wrongdoing.

Can you imagine what Joseph had to be thinking? His life had not been what he had envisioned when God disclosed the dream to him. He was to be a prominent man in his family- not trapped in a prison in a foreign land. Yet, Joseph never complained or became bitter about his circumstances. He believed God would be faithful to His word. Amazing.

How often do we only see the rain clouds? We look around and see no outlet from our prison, only bars and locked doors. A change in our perspective would unveil the shining sun and not the rain. We would realize that our prison is a stepping-stone in God’s plan for our life. Our circumstances may be the perfect situation and opportunity for God to display His wonderful, abundant grace.

It is not easy to be positive when surrounded by inescapable walls. Yet, God’s word is true. Romans 8:28 (NIV) states, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” I am convinced that a different vantage point would enable us to see we are a step away from being in Pharaoh’s palace, exactly as God had designed all along.
