When we think of someone telling a lie we generally think of a little child not telling the truth to their parents. As we grow older we don’t take lies as serious as we did as children. In life we will be told numerous lies and many of them will come from Satan himself. Why is it we too often believe his lies even though they contradict the word of God? The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8 Your enemy the Devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He is seeking an entrance into our lives in order to hold us in bondage. His ultimate goal is to destroy us. Jesus also referred to satan as a thief. In John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy… He is very deceitful in his ways. He seeks out our weaknesses and then attempts to destroy us with them. He starts by telling lies to our minds. If he can get our minds to yield to his lies, he will be halfway there. This is why it is extremely important to be firmly planted in the Word of God. John 8:44…there is no truth in him (Devil).Even if Satan wanted to speak the truth, he couldn’t because there is not even one tiny ounce of truth that can come out of his being. With this knowledge, anytime a bad thought that contradicts the Word of God comes to your mind, cast it down as a lie. Jesus went on to state in v.44 he is a liar and the farther of it.

I, myself, have pondered lies he put in my head, in order to hold me in bondage. But once I came across this truth, I was set free. We have to know the truth in order to be set free from the lies. (John 14:6) Jesus is the Way, the truth and the life. In other words, if we abide in his words, we will know what is truth and what is a lie. If it contradicts his word about us, than we know it is a lie from Satan himself; and we must cast it down. 2 Corinthians 10:5 casting down arguments and ever high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.


John 6:48, Jesus said of himself, “I am the bread of life.” If we truly want to live in freedom and strength, we must eat of the bread of life. We must believe in Jesus and Him who sent him, which is God the Father. As a result, we must feast at his table by reading, believing and doing his words.

I absolutely love what Jesus said in John 8:31-32 …”If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed (v.32) And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” There is something refreshing and clean about knowing the truth. The truth brings light into dark places. It brings strength to the weak. It brings conviction to our souls. In essence, it brings refreshing to the heart of man. Once truth has been exposed, sin and darkness must flee. They have no part in truth. Satan must flee when truth is revealed. But we must believe!

Truth is a gift given to us from the Father. The Holy Spirit takes the word of truth and brings it to life in our spirit. This way, when we come to the truth, our own spirit is quickened to the Word and grabs hold if it. When we grab hold if it we are feeding our spirits by eating the word of God. Once our spirit has taken hold of it, it is translated to our minds. Our minds must be subject to the truth in order to be set free. It should not be other way around. If our minds aren’t subject to the truth given to our spirit, we will believe the lies of Satan. But if our mind is subject, it will believe what the Holy Spirit has transferred to our spirit.

Whatever you are going through in your mind, know that it is a lie from Satan to hold you in bondage. But you can be set free, through knowing the truth. Find scriptures that strengthen your spirit and believe them as the truth concerning yourselves. Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
