VENTURE IN A CANOE

I remember my first venture in a canoe
It's a tale that I will tattle
Like that old saying I heard somewhere before
Being up the creek without a paddle

A friend and I went fishing
The canoe was strapped to the car
Upon arriving at the lake we disembarked
The distance was not too far

The canoe was tied to a nearby dock
Our gear was set in its place
The paddles handed out we positioned ourselves
Now we were off to the race

I got in my squat and prepared the assuage
He pushed off and then turned around
When he saw my face he did nothing but laugh
Without my life jacket on I would have drowned

I guess that he thought that I knew
What canoeist know all along
If you paddle against each other my friend
Your going to go round and round

Because of his laughing the canoe now had tipped
Into the water we went
Me in my life jacket heading for shore
Him looking for fishing gear scent

Now much the wiser one thing I've learned
Ask and ye shall receive
Don't go in a canoe without a few lessons
Trust me, I know, I believe!
