Poetry

I.
Veiled in finite flesh, mercy walks the earth;
Grace He brings, speaking of heaven;
He embodies His Father, for all He's worth;
He is God's Word, purified times seven;

He knows who He is and His destiny,
Yet He lived the servant's life;
Disrobed to wash His men's feet;
The water foretells a coming sacrifice.

II.
Blood and broken flesh on dried and dirty wood,
The crowd below is seething;
This dying horror is God's greatest good,
The profane and holy are meeting.

The Mediator writhes, in pain as well as prayer;
He speaks joy in our behalf;
Shame done here shames the god of the air,
The Son is subject to God's wrath.

III.
Angels release Him from His tomb,
Death cannot hold the Prince of mirth;
God's glory released from earth's womb,
He has purchased our second birth;

He comes to His men to show His wounds,
And breathes His Spirit upon them;
Releasing them from their spiritual tombs,
He has made them borne again.
