Beside the Lord all my life, even before I knew Him;
Held me close to Himself while my eyes were veiled;
An heir of His salvation, despite of all my sin;
Blessed me with the rain, while He was not hailed.

Angels held me in under their high guard;
The law was my tutor to bring me to the Son;
As for His Father, I was His loved ward;
He had plans for us, to make us one.

He waited for my time come, what a patient heart,
Yet patiently broke me down, through the many years;
And when I finally called, quick He was to impart;
Brought me the joy of Himself, to replace my fears.

Beside the Lord all my life, while I knew Him not;
Desired my soul as His, to be my sole Abide;
The Spirit moved on me, taking my sin's rot;
Now I see the One true God that I am beside.
