God or Mammon

Sometimes the Lord puts something in our spirit that we know needs to happen. This is one of those times for me. What I see and hear all around me causes my heart to hurt. Priorities are so out of line with God’s word. The world has taught us that life is in the abundance of things, which we possess. This is a major lie of the enemy. Unfortunately not only the world has bought into this lie, but also much of the church. Even many ministries seem to have such a money focus. Many have expensive possessions as if this will bring to them life. I am sort of odd I guess. I would much rather see a tent revival where worldly things do not come into play. The only thing that can be there is the power of the Holy Spirit. I think that maybe this is why historically these meetings were so successful. There were no other gods before God.

Scripture states in Luke 16:13 that, no servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. We also read in Mathew 13:22; He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. Do we know anyone that is more focussed on making money or having the nice things of this world rather than bringing the kingdom down to earth? The word is being preached everywhere. Yet, is anyone listening? People hear the word and then it is choked out by the cares of this world before it can even take root. Does anyone believe that they can trust God with their life? Are there people that really believe that God will take care of all of their need? I said needs, not wants. When we focus on our need, we are so selfish. Does anyone consider that maybe God has a need? Does His matter? We seem to have this false sense of security that we must have money in the bank, or a fancy house or car. This is not life! Life is in Jesus alone. Only he can satisfy that hunger that is in us. God made us that way. He put a spot in us that only can be filled by Him.

Galatians 6:8 says; for he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. It is the Spirit that gives to us life, not worldly riches or things. Our focus has been so wrong. We have spent our time pursuing our goals and desires rather than God’s. I am not saying that we are to be broke. I am saying that if we will follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, that we will find life beyond what we could ever have imagined, plus see all of our needs met. For so many I see the pursuit of mammon their greatest desire. This is temporal. What God desires is eternal. I have found nothing greater than to either be in His presence or have the Holy Spirit use me to bring about something that He desires. There is no comparison with anything else to the completeness this brings to a person.

Somehow we seem to believe that our purpose on earth is about what we can possess or do for ourself. This is a lie. Our purpose is to bring the kingdom of God down to earth for an eternal, not temporal purpose. Luke 12:15 says, “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things, which he possesseth”. Time is getting shorter as most will agree. Personally, I want to be about my Father’s business when Jesus comes back, not my own. I am serving one master alone. How about you which one will you serve? Which master are you serving? Until the revelation comes to us that it is not about us, but only about Him, we are going to walk in darkness and miss what God has in store for us. It is time for America to wake up from the slumber that they have been in and get their priorities in order. Let’s all help bring God’s kingdom down to earth. The kingdom of God is in us, but we must decide if we are going to yield to it or not.
