The Rain

The natural rain falls and cleanses all things that are exposed to the rain. The rain also does something else. Rain softens the ground. Ground that has been hard where plants and objects have been firmly held becomes softened as the rain penetrates the soil. Where once it was difficult to uproot something, it becomes easier to dig out the roots.

The Holy Spirit rain accomplishes the same thing in the spiritual realm. Hearts that have been hardened are softened as the Holy Spirit rain falls. The softening allows for change. Where the strongholds in the mind kept people bound to untruths, the Holy Spirit rain can penetrate these strongholds of the enemy. The Holy Spirit rain can penetrate even the hardest of hearts. Depending on how hard the heart is, the Holy Spirit will just give a steady slow rain that little by little will saturate. A cloudburst will cause much of the rain to just flow across the surface but because it is such a great amount at once, little will soak in. The Holy Spirit is like this to us. He gently and steadily will let the rain fall. Each drop soaks in a little at a time. With each drop a softening occurs. Eventually, the soil of our heart has softened enough that the roots can be laid bare and removed. The past hurts and the demonic influences that have so disrupted our lives are now laid bare and exposed. These roots have kept us from true fulfillment and a deep relationship with our Savior.

God so loves each one of us. We get impatient at times, as we want change quickly. There are areas in our hearts as well as in others that are deeply rooted in hardened hearts of soil. God allows the Holy Spirit to soften these little by little. If we would just remember that God will never allow any more than we can take. He prepares hearts little by little as they are able to withstand the change. Next time we watch the natural rain coming down, maybe we will think of this little story. The rain will penetrate work down to even the deepest of roots if it rains long enough. When you see the rainfall this should increase your faith, as you know that the rain is working in the hearts of mankind. You can now just stand by faith and thank Him as you await the changes that he has in store. The rain always cleanses even down to the roots.

Let us do everything that we can to allow the Holy Spirit rain to fall on our hearts and the hearts of others. Let’s do the warfare and intercession that the way of the Lord be prepared. Let’s make a highway for the Holy Spirit to go down with freedom and with no restrictions so that hearts will be saturated with Him. Our prayer and intercession moves the obstacles out of the way. Our prayer and intercession is what the Lord uses to set people free. Let’s be faithful to pray, intercede and do the warfare so that hearts can be softened as the Holy Spirit rain falls. Our prayers are the raindrops of the Holy Spirit that will penetrate those hardened hearts. Some hearts take more raindrops than others do, so keep praying and believing.
