Encouragement

Consider the dawning of a new day. What a wonderful thing that is. The thrill of those new and rewarding experiences just waiting to be grasped, of meeting old friends and making new ones. Of feeling the warmth of the sun on the face, or the gentle touch of the morning dew. It truly is one of life’s blessings. It is nothing less than a miracle in progress.

However, as powerful as it is, there are going to be days when it is pouring with rain, or worse still snowing heavily and bitterly cold. Some people, when faced with this sort of situation may give a groan of apprehension, regarding the day with a sense of burden and anxiety, with the feeling that the most sensible thing to do would be to turn their backs on the world and creep back into bed.

But sadly they are missing out on something quite extraordinary, for with that attitude of defeat they impoverish themselves and all those that they come into contact with. Indeed they are sorely missing out on life because this day has been given to us to enjoy, to express our faith, to be happy, to celebrate the glorious fact that we are alive, and to spread this happiness to all those around us.

This is not to say that we should bury our heads in the sand and turn away whenever we are beset by our own problems or the distress that those dear to us may be suffering. The fact that we live our day in joy and faith means that we have the inner strength to face up to and overcome any troubles that are thrown up at us, and emerge even stronger and more resilient. The simple sense of wonder which comes to us when we take the old advice to count our blessings each day will enrich our lives immeasurably.

When all is said and done, by far the most satisfying day is one when we have honestly and truly strived to live up to our best in character, integrity, and loyalty. So we should fill the mind and the soul with the belief that, amid the stress and pressures of the day we can still maintain a calm and tranquil mind, and a heart at peace in spite of everything.

Somebody once said, many years ago; “Receive into your soul the song of a bird, the fragrance of a flower, the kind words of a friend, the vision of a loved one, and above all the peace that passes all understanding.” If we can live with these words in mind, we shall learn how full and rich each day can be.
