(written 9-10-03)
To bridle the tongue
is to bridle the whole man.
I desire to be like You, Jesus.
Are You not One of meekness,
of self-control?
You grant me the Guard of my heart,
Your very Spirit.
Make me mindful with godly fear,
as I fill the treasure of my heart
with Your word.
Make me complete with restraint,
a wall for the godly man’s city.
Cause in me strength to stand
against my fleshly whims.
Let Your word be my eyes’ blinders,
along with the image of Your Son.
With focused heart and body
I can praise You all my days.
