Healing
(Author's note: 'Nu?' was
a favorite question of
my mother's. It's Yiddish
for 'Can you believe?',
or 'So? What now?')

Let all who take refuge in Thee
rejoice,
let them ever sing for joy.
[Psalms 5:11]
****************************
"Lord?"
"I am here, child."
"I'm having one 'a
those BAD moments."
"Look at Me, child."
"Yeah. Okay.
(silence)
Now, WHAT?
I STILL feel BAD!"
"Have you read My Word?"
"'Ya mean, TODAY?"
[NOD.]
"Well, NO, Lord;
'Ya know, I've been
at work, all day."
[NOD.]
"Where are you now, My child?"
"Eh.......sittin' in front of
my keyboard with a cup 'a
raspberry sherbet."
[NOD.]
"And, do you have
My WORD?"
"Well, yeah.
It's right HERE."
"Nu?"
"What d'Ya MEAN?
It's OPEN!"
"Yes, child.
But, are you READING
It?"
"Well, Lord, You know
I have trouble with all
these words. I was
never a good reader.
I'm still only on chapter 3
of 'Left Behind'."
[NOD.]
"Well then, My precious?"
"Well WHAT?"
"What are you waiting for?"
"Should I go to the New Part,
or the Old Part?"
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"Well, it is Christmas time,
and all. Plus, everytime I
open Your Old Part, You
always seem to be YELLING
at the Jews, for one
thing or another."
[NOD.]
"Actually, I think
it's kind'a funny.
But, don't tell anybody."
[PATIENT NOD.]
"I picture a bunch 'a
my scruffy relatives,
all standin' around
in B.C. clothes,
all in front 'a this Big Cloud,
and pointin' to one another:
'Uh, UH, Lord!
HE did it!'
'No WAY, Lord!
Don't LISTEN 'ta
him! HE did it!'"
[SMILE.]
"Tell Me, child;
what is B.C.?"
"Huh? It means,
'Before Christ'.
YOU know that!"
[NOD.]
"Lord? I think
that's kind'a weird.
Who decided when
our years would start
at B.C., and A.D.?"
"I did."
"REALLY? I always
thought it was the
World Book Encyclopedia?"
"No, My child."
(silence)
Hey, LORD?"
"Yes, My precious?"
"The bad thirty seconds
have passed. I think
I can go on, now."
[NOD.]

O Lord,
rebuke me not in Thy anger,
nor chasten me in Thy wrath.
Be gracious to me,
O Lord,
for I am languishing;
O Lord,
Heal me,
for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is sorely troubled.
[To the choirmaster;
with stringed instruments;
A Psalm of David.
Psalms 6:1-3]
