The Day after Christmas

Well the day came and the day left
Christmas now is over and what did we get?
Did we get many presents that tickle our ears?
And now we must pay for them for the coming years

We are all tired because of all the time spent
Wrapping and shopping to try to make a heart content
Yet in a few days the old cycle will begin again
We will be back to the wanting and still be empty within

All the presents that we wanted soon go on the shelf
But the monthly bill will keep coming for our gorging self
The toys will soon break and now need repair
Or they will get lost maybe under the furniture somewhere

The pleasures we received fed our carnal lust
And we may have spent over our limit so our bank account went bust
The funny thing is, come next Christmas we may do it again
Will we ever learn to walk in Jesus and be cleansed from our sin?

The presents that we really needed come only from above
As each of us are really only searching for, our Father’s love
The only thing that can fill our real heart’s need
Is being in Gods presence as His Holy Spirit we will heed

Contentment comes only from our spirit within
All the externals we desire usually are just a self centered sin
The true joy that we can possess will last through all time
When we learn that our true need is filled by the Holy Spirit, and is divine

Jesus said, where the heart is
There also is its treasure
Should we consider this
When we indulge in our self-pleasure?
