What is the Value of Peace?
Nov 25, 2007
By: Rick L. King
Many years ago I was partitioning the Lord for a particular thing to take place. I don’t recall what the circumstance was, but I do remember being determined to have it change.
In the process of questioning the Lord, I found myself thinking of this scripture:
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
It seemed that no matter what I believed, did, or said that things were just not changing. Maybe I am the only one that would get frustrated over God not seemingly answering. All the sudden God gave me this peace over the circumstance. I thought well peace is great, but what about the situation that didn’t change? I found myself a little resentful of the Lord for Him only giving me peace. It just didn’t seem to be enough. I was determined remember? Well, to my surprise the peace I had disappeared. It was gone for weeks. I struggled and struggled but found no relief. Finally I gave in. I said Lord; peace is a pretty good answer. No matter what happens in the problem I was facing, please return the peace so I can at least bare the wait. He then gave me back peace.
Sometimes, it seems that maybe we take the peace from God for granted. The scripture:
Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Often we may not understand the why and the why not from God, but He does promise to us peace that surpasses our understanding. I have learned to just accept the answer whether I see God do it or not. His peace is far more important. Actually, the frustration I felt came from a fleshly desire. When we don’t get what we think we want, frustrations can come. I have learned to rest in God and just know that what He desires or does is always far greater than what I could ever do for myself. This was a great accomplishment of the Lord in me. To me, the value now of peace is irreplaceable. No matter the situation or storm we face, God can give to us peace in the midst of it. Only His Spirit, instead of external circumstances moves us. Praise God that He was determined to do this in me.
Scripture in Galatians says that peace is the fruit of the spirit. The disciples on the lake had frustration and fear when the storm came, yet Jesus was at peace. If we are IN Jesus, then we will be at peace no matter what comes our way. We become moved by our spirit, not external circumstances. This must be our goal, to allow the Holy Spirit and our spirit man to rule. God said that we go out with joy and are led forth by peace.
In God's eyes peace is very valuable. We can be led when we are at peace.
