Boldness to Speak Without Fear

Often times, we ask the Lord to give us boldness without fear when we find we feel we need to speak to someone. Yet, we may be asking amiss.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. (sensual delight; by implication, desire:—lust, pleasure.)

We, out of our own desire may pray for boldness without fear. We may not receive the boldness as we may be coming across religious or out of an impure motive. If our desire to speak to someone is based in Christ’s love, then we will have no fear. There is no fear in love. So instead of praying for boldness without fear, maybe we should be praying to love them with God’s love instead.

I recall an experience of years ago where a young man was rebellious and his parents were praying for his salvation. I found myself praying that I would have God’s love for him. This I was later to realize was the Holy Spirit’s prayer as I had not considered praying this way. Because of that prayer, I experienced a love way beyond the natural love and was able to go into intercession and warfare for him. Within six months, he was saved. I really had not spoken to him, but instead was given direction by the Holy Spirit in how to pray for him. He needed intercession instead of bold words.

Love never fails! (1 Corinthians 13:8). We can have a prophecy, or tongues, or knowledge, yet it is the love that brings the change. The love causes us to be able to lay down our lives for someone else. The love allows us to be able to esteem someone higher than our self. The love enables us to not look at the problems but to focus on the solutions and how God sees the person. We often pray out of our knowledge of good and evil, yet this is not a correct motive to pray. Our prayers must be based in love, God’s love. Without this love it profits us nothing. God’s love does not pray based on what we think or desire for someone, it is based only on what God desires or wants.

As an intercessor, I have found that when I am interceding for someone, the love that I sense for the person is sometimes very intense. I seem to feel God’s heart for them to become what He alone desires for them. I find that I am aware of the areas where they may struggle, yet my focus is not on them. My motive is to see them enter into what God has for them. I think our religious nature seems to be more focussed on what they should be or should not be doing. This is really not our concern. Our concern must be on loving them with God’s love so that we may do whatever God requires to bring them to him. This may be laying down our lives for them by doing without some material things so that they may have them. This may be giving them finances when we our self seem to need them or from our viewpoint they may squander or use them in a manner that may seem wasteful. Concerning money, what they do with it is not our concern. Our concern must be just being obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit. This also may be praying and doing spiritual warfare for them until the strongholds that the enemy has them bound by are broken. Without God’s love, we cannot do these things. God’s love is not self-pleasing (1 Cor 13:5). God’s love esteems others of more importance than our self (Philippians 2:3).

If you truly desire to pray and not ask amiss, then pray to have God’s love for people. God is love. The fruit we see will be far greater than fruit from any religious words or prayers based in our impure selfish motives. God said that if we ask anything according to His will that He hears’ us. If we ask for love, He will hear us. If we ask for boldness to speak with out fear, He may not hear us. Love never fails! Sister Theresa I believe was an excellent example of love the way God intends.

 suffereth long (patient)
 is kind
 envieth not
 vaunteth not itself
 is not puffed up,
 Doth not behave itself unseemly
 seeketh not her own
 is not easily provoked
 thinketh no evil
 Rejoiceth not in iniquity
 rejoiceth in the truth;
 Beareth all things
 believeth all things
 hopeth all things
 endureth all things.

Instead of praying for the attributes of love, then just pray for love and you will have the attributes!

The song we sing “More Love, More Power” is a great song that exemplifies what we get as we walk in God’s love. We get more power! We need to be singing and believing and asking for this more. Another we sing, “Fill my way every day with love” should be our prayer. When we walk in this love, we then have it all.

If we can learn to walk in love and just be obedient to the Holy Spirit, then we have it all. We don’t have to focus on what gifting we have as God will give to us what we need when we need it as we just do as He shows.
