But God, You Told Me To Do it

One day the Lord told me to do something
So I tried with all my might
I tried periodically for a long time
But it never would turn out right

I got to the place that I just gave up
Why it didn’t work I could not see
After all, God told me to do it
So why didn’t it work out, for me?

I was sitting in Church one Sunday
Just praising and worshiping the Lord
The Holy Spirit started talking to me
About that long ago word

He said that I had been striving
I said, striving, how can this be?
You did tell me to do it, right?
He said yes, but not without me!

Oh what a great lesson
Though it seems to take a lifetime to learn
Even though God says to do something
The pages, we must let God turn

It is just like a vision
It is for an appointed time
If we try to make it happen
We will miss, God's plan, divine

When He puts things into our heart
We need to pray and seek his will
Sometimes even though it is of Him
He expects us to just be patient, and still

What God speaks will take place
As His word is true, I cannot deny
We must just let the Holy Spirit lead
Then God will get all the glory, and not I.

God says that the vision
Is yet for an appointed time
Though it tarry, wait for it
It shall surely come, and shall not lie.
