A Lesson in Pride

Did you ever deal with pride? Did you ever feel like someone show know something that you do and put him or her down because they had not learned that truth yet?

God said that we are to esteem another higher than self. When we walk in pride, that is very hard to do. Love is not self-pleasing. It does not exalt self over another. This is what happened to me. One of the lessons I had to learn.

A brother in Christ several years ago was unaware of something that I already had learned. I in my heart had unkind thoughts and word’s about him. I just couldn’t seem to accept that he didn’t already know this truth. God has a way of dealing with us when we exalt our self over another. He dealt with me in a way that I will never forget. I ended up being in a checkout line at a local store with him. I found myself thinking those same thoughts again about him. All of the sudden, I believe in the spirit, I saw myself as a little ant on the floor looking up at this giant of a man. I no longer felt so important and full of pride. I learned a tough lesson of esteeming another higher than self. Something that I had not realized at that point was, we are only what we are by God’s grace. When we think we have all the answers, watch out, we are getting ready for a great fall. Just because God in His grace reveals something to us, does never mean that we are better than anyone else is. If we want to know God’s grace, then we must remember that it comes through humility, not pride and self-exaltation.

I remember something the Holy Spirit once shared with me in church. He said Rick; I have gifted you to minister to others, but. I also have gifted others to minister to you. We need each other. We need the ministry of each other through the many gifts that God has given to His Church. When we think we are so great, we are unteachable and unable to be blessed by someone else that God has anointed to minister to us. Let’s stay humble and know that our source, as well as our brother or sisters source is God. We are nothing without Jesus. I don’t know about you, but I need His grace daily to stand at all. We are never our source. He alone is Lord!
