Fear Will Cost Us

Out in the yard is a nice little apple tree. Must have been a great year, because it has full of nice red apples. When I first got here, many apples were on the ground. The deer would come up and seem to gorge themselves on a tasty delight. It was really fun watching them. I noticed one evening though, that they were not eating. I went out when they were not there and noticed the apples weren’t falling anymore. I thought that they needed their treats, so I started shaking the tree so apples would fall. I didn’t know what I had gotten started.

It seems every evening now about 5:30 p.m., one to 5 deer will show up. This one deer seems to stand right on the edge of the mound below the tree and watch me. Well, the other night there were five hungry deer under the tree with no apples. It was time to shake the tree. As I started walking towards the tree, four of the deer ran away scared. The one little deer just backed up and watched me. I shook the tree till about a dozen apples had fallen, then walked back to the porch. This one deer then came and had a feast. The other four never came back that night.

I thought to myself, what an example of what fear does. The one without fear had a blessing. The other four that gave into the fear, lost out on a tasty meal. Seems what God says about fear is true. The devil comes to kill, steal and destroy. God has not given to us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind. Since fear is a spirit, and anyone that has it or yields to it, will always be stolen from. That is fear’s fruit; it will kill, steal or destroy.

Next time fears try to grip you, maybe you will remember this little story. Give in to them, it will cost you something. Walk through them, there may be a blessing for you. We will never know till we try.
