You held my hand as I first crossed the street,
I held your hand as you crossed the Great Divide.

Cheering, you witnessed me graduate from school to adulthood,
Stunned, I witnessed you graduate from life into eternity.

In the past, you needed to ask me if your tie matched your shirt,
In the future, whom will I ask about my retirement strategy?

You left me at the altar, realizing your life would never be the same.
I left you at the grave, wondering how life could go on without you.

My empty room brought tears to your eyes,
Your empty house stirs my memories, blurring my eyes.

"God," you would say, "will get me through this."
"God," I must believe, "can get me through this."

You were grateful the day God sent me to you,
I'll always be grateful He chose you as my Dad.

As you showed our family the meaning of love,
I'll show the world the fruits of your love.

You understood nothing happens before God's time,
I'm still learning to accept His time is better than mine.

When telling of your ancestors, you would bring them to life,
I'll tell my grandchildren of you, keeping you alive.

Years passed until in India, we ministered together again,
It won't be long 'til in heaven, we'll rejoice together again.

In the footsteps of Jesus you followed each day,
In your footsteps, I'm following Him, walking in His way.

Thank you for being the man that you were,
Thanks for helping me become the woman I am.
