A Pastor or a Puppet?

Nov 27, 2002
By Rick L King

Have you ever been in a church where the Deacons or the church board seem to be the ones running the pulpit? Is the pastor told what He can and can not do?

When I see this, I get very concerned. A Pastor has a great responsibility for the sheep. He is supposed to hear from the Lord and share with the flock what the Holy Spirit is saying. When others play God over him and tell him he may do this or that, the church has a real problem. Sure, the Lord may be saying something to us through him that may bring conviction upon us for doing some things we shouldn’t. I guess we need to answer some questions as a body.

1. Is the pastor the pastor because God placed him there?
2. Can we trust God to work through this pastor?
3. Do we desire what God wants for this body?
4. Are we willing to give up our control so that the Holy Spirit can do as He wishes?
5. Who is our Lord?

If we can not trust the pastor to hear from and say what the Lord desires, then why do we have him/her as the pastor? If we are playing church and in control then all we want is a puppet to do what we think should be done. We want to rule the person so we will never have to come face to face with what God is saying to us. Are we scared to know the truth? Are we full of self-righteousness and pride? Church leaders beware. The time is coming that He will have His person in the pulpit regardless of whether we agree or not. There are too many hurting people that go to a church in hopes of help, who are disillusioned as they hear a watered down word with no power. God is going to have His church. I guess we must decide if we want a puppet or a pastor in the pulpit. We better get ready for a pastor that is anointed with the Holy Ghost and fire. The time is coming soon I believe that the church will be drastically changed. Jesus wants to be Lord of His church instead of man lording over others what they desire to do or see. If you cannot trust the pastor that you have to do what the Holy Spirit desires, then why is he there in the first place? Can you take the chains off your pastor and let him do what He senses the Lord wanting to do? Is it not time to turn the pastors loose? You may be surprised at what God has given you in this person and what the Holy Spirit will do. Guess you will never know until you allow God to be God.
