When the grandchildren arrived to spend an hour with their grandfather, he started to question them right away to see if they had followed the instructions he had given them several weeks early.

The grandmother watched from the kitchen in anticipation. This was going to be a lot of fun and a great source of writing material for her.

"Okay," he said to the children, "Who has made a decision about your career choices?"
'Me first!" said the 4 year old standing on her head.
"You can go first, but you have to stand up straight. You know the rule- "No standing on your head at your grandparents house!"

The 4 year old stood up straight, adjusted her pony tail and began. "We had to pick two things we wanted to be... and I picked a doctor and a manicurist!
I want to have a big building. On one side I will do doctoring, and on the other side I will do manicures and perms!"

The 8 year old spoke up, "Thats silly, girl. If you are a doctor you will be too busy to do perms!"
The 4 year old was unshaken. "I won't be too busy because I am not going to doctor people with colds!"

"NO! NO!" the 6 year old said,"You got to treat everybody, girl!"

The 8 year old said in great wisdom, "You can't scriminate against people who have colds."

The Grandfather kept the conversation going.
"How about you?, " he asked the 6 year old, "What two career choices have you made?"

The 6 year old, who was still feeling the effects of a run in with poison ivy, was scratching his back, his left hand twisted around and buried under his shirt.

"Granddaddy, I want to be a scientist and invent somethin' that kills all of the poison ivy in the world so I will never have a rash again!"

"Yes, " agreed his Grandfather, "Or you could just be obedient and stop climbing on that fence like I told you to. Whats your other career choice?"

"Oh, A Clown. I want to be a Scientist and a Clown. Not just a Clown but I want to have a Clown store and sell all kinds of party things and costumes, and especially those canisters that blow up balloons."

The 8 year old patiently waited his turn.
"Granddaddy I want to be a Minister and own a Gold Fish store. Those are my choices.

Ministers only work on Sundays, so I will have a lot of days left to sell fish and aquariums.
GrandddMomma said the Ministry is a high calling, so I am really only being a Minister for her."

The Grandfather wiped tears of laughter from his eyes and turned just in time to see the 18 month old adjusting the aluminum blinds.
"Go get the baby..."

The 4 year old dashed to the window and carried-dragged the baby to sit in his Grandfathers lap.

She said, "Granddaddy, the baby didn't make no career choices. All he knows how to do is wave bye bye and play peekaboo and there sure ain't no money in that!"
