I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. Joel 2:25-26

TOO LATE



My grandchildren will not say,

“Grandma always said ...” or

“Grandma always did it this way ...”

They don’t know me.



They see my mess, now,

after a quarter of a century of care-giving;

And that 'says it all' for them.



Maybe, one day, they will wonder

(try to figure out who I was)

And yearn a little, as I do now for them,

to know the inward thoughts.



There are words that will never be said,

places we will never go,

songs we’ll never sing;

memories we can never make, now.



I hope and pray for their families,

and my genes, that

they never have to say,

“It’s too late.”
