I sit here in the solitude that I have made
As my stubborn heart ignores the sound of your calling to obey.
I hear you call to me on the breeze, the sweet smell of the air
You are waiting to be recognized, You are right there.
Each day not in your presence makes it easier to stay away.
But the longing for you is still there day after day.
I hear you calling every morning through the songs of the birds,
I should be like them joyously singing of your wonderful works.
In thanksgiving creation cries out to you,
For all you have done and created, I should be thankful too.
Like nature around me You should be so evident in my life,
That people should see your power and presence and not any strife.
They should hear praise to You from my very tongue
That has not spoken of the works You have done.
Your glory should glow from my very face
That has shown bitterness instead of Your grace.
My heart that has been longing for your presence
Should be crying out to You, but has beat with emptiness.
My hands so busy with all the unnecessary duty
Should be reaching out to show someone of Your beauty.
My ears that have heard but not listened, opened they need to be.
My eyes that have seen but not comprehended the sights that they need to see.
My mind on things that matter not, has wandered,
When it's your voice and word it should have pondered.
My feet that need to follow you have stepped away,
Oh Lord, please bring me into your presence once again today!

When it's your voice and word it should have pondered."... So very true. How Satan likes to get us off the track when we start out praying. Before long, and without our realizing it, our minds are on earthly things and on things that we MUST do. But what is more important than being "In God's Presence"? Thanks for sharing...Helen
