The Shepherd

Sometimes the Lord takes measures
To bring sheep back to the fold
He longs for them to return
And in His arms to hold.

He watches with silent sorrow
As His sheep are led astray
Tangled in a bramble patch
As they go along “their” way.

His staff of gentle prodding
Keeps sheep upon His trail
Prompting at times is ignored
Even through the Lord’s avail.

The Shepherd’s persistent prompting
May have to become severe
To get the sheep’s attention
There is pain to make them hear.

Is your life going down a path
That the Lord would not approve?
Is there suffering and strife?
The Lord is saying “MOVE!”

Come back into the Shepherd’s fold
Come back upon the trail
He will welcome with open arms
His mercy will unveil.
