Lament for my beloved

Now rain, immortal tears, upon my head,
Pour down your incense and enbalm my soul;
Mourn all ye hearts that now to death are fled,
Mourn for my sweetheart whom the bells now toll.
Life has no happiness now that he's gone,
Now that the shades of death his shape enclose;
Ye stars of night who on his grave have shone
Pierce through my soul and now the ice wind blows.
The ice gusts shriek and chill my very bones;
Yet, sorrow melts and trickles to the floor
And lies there frozen on the churchyard stones
Like blood that from my hollow heart doth pour.
O Death, now is the time to freeze my heart,
To free my soul that now lives but in part.
