For This Day

I knew not when this day would come
But I dreamed for which it would
For this day is now upon my life
And may I be the wife I should

For this day I wed thee now
In witness to the Lord above
May His hand be upon our lives
As we strive to show His love

May I treasure fast the moment now
For a marriage that God ordained
Help me always be a steadfast mate
One that the Solid Rock sustained

For this day I wear the ring
That tells others I am not free
His for eternity, yours for now
I pledge my love to thee

To you, the new bride, I say what I said to your new groom. But one thing I will add: what made our marriage last 50 years is that I chose this motto: "In honour preferring one another." In other words, putting your partner first will most likely result that he will do the same.... outcome? a solid--yet not without a few glitches--marriage. Gliches are only that---they can be easily fixed with an "I'm sorry!" and a kiss. God bless you both. A friend of your new "Mother-in-law."... Helen

Thank you. Both of my children are getting married within six weeks of each other. One in October, one in December. Busy days! But fun days. :) Lucy

Great poem and marriage vow. With the wedding preparations you, the mom, have been making, I am not surprised to see this. God bless. You'll need to treat yourself to a nice rest after the weddings are over.
