What is it going to take for us to see our fellow man as a baby Jesus? Think of Jesus as a baby - knowing nothing, comprehending nothing, simply screaming, yelling, and waving his arms and legs around demanding to exist? Yes, Jesus, was a helpless baby, had no concept of salvation, and learned to walk and talk just as we did. Why can we not see those around us as a “Baby Jesus in Training”, knowing nothing, comprehending nothing, simply screaming and yelling and waving arms and legs demanding to exist? We cannot see into the heart of man. We do not know what person is being trained up as a child of God.

Laws, and rules and religions do not exist for babies. They have no laws, no rules, and no concept of God. Their wails and announcements to the world say “ I exist, move over, make room for me, I AM”. They will not be quieted because a law or a rule says their behavior will have consequences or be judged. Their crisis for continued survival demands food, warmth, and rest. Their spirits search for hope, purpose, and self worth, not comprehending salvation.

We have ignored the cries of souls struggling to exist; those souls who are waving their arms and legs struggling to survive; those souls who are living in terror, screaming, cursing, and striking out at whatever appears to threaten them. Even worse, when their cries become too loud we end their struggle permanently. How many around us are potential children of God “in training”?

Have we really tried to understand how desperate they are to just survive? We have cast them aside as evil when in fact they are only babies we should have cared for. We demand they follow this law or that law or pay the penalty. We do not listen to their tales of horrific lives or offer comfort and validation by crying with them. We have no mercy.

The jobs we offer will not feed and clothe their families, but we expect gratitude. We set in place obstacles and hindrances to advancement. We take advantage of their lack of resources and refuse to offer treatment that is just and fair. We use quotes from the Bible to tell them they should be grateful for their meager existence; that they are wrong and evil and have no right to ever hope for an opportunity because they are bad. We are so terrified someone will get ahead of us, so jealous of everyone around us; we have become incapable of offering more than bare courtesy to anyone. We are cursed with an epidemic of “self” and it is highly contagious.

We are reaping what we have sown, what our fathers have sown, and what their fathers have sown. The rich get richer and the poor get more hopeless.

We do not honor God’s concepts, nor do we honor his precepts. We wander lost in the country of technicality, quoting the letter of the Bible without actually practicing the concepts set in place by God. We claim a covenant with God, but are only interested in God’s part. We have consistently denied the truth of what we must know in our hearts is our part.

In America, we pray without ceasing and search the Bible for information that will save us. We are like a stampeding herd of spooked cattle, crushing and trampling over others in our escape from terror. We will not see the edge of the cliff until it is too late.
