Faith
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases,
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is Thy faithfulness.
[Lamentations 3:22-23]

"Uh, Lord, I like that little
frog on my doorstep."
[SILENCE.]
"He's very cute."
[SILENCE.]
"Does he live under that
li'le tree, out front?"
[SILENCE.]
"Yeah, I think he does.
There was that time the
cat was poking at him,
near his hole."
[SILENCE.]
"What does he do:
eat the bugs that come
out at night?"
[SILENCE.]
"He's really cute.
Maybe I'll call him
Fred."
[SILENCE.]
"Hey, Lord;
'sorry I cursed at
You, last night.
I didn't mean it."
[SILENCE.]
"I'm so stupid;
Fred is smarter."
"Perhaps, child."
"Hey, Lord? How
come You told that
guy to hide his brand
new belt in the rocks?
THAT was weird."
"Where is it, child."
"Here in Jeremiah:
...the Lord said to me,
Go and buy a linen waistcloth,
.......take the
waistcloth.......and arise,
go to the Euphrates,
and hide it there in a
cleft of the rock....."
He could have at least
stuck it a plastic bag.
That was kin'a dumb."
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"Oh, yeah; that's right.
Plastic wasn't invented
till' the '60's."
[SMILE.]
"It was in that movie,
'The Graduate':
that famous line,
'I have one thing to
say to you, son:
plastics!"
"Yes, child."
"Yeah, Lord.
That part where
Dustin Hoffman
and - I forget her
name - she was
real pretty -
.....when they
were on that bus,
at the end of the
movie. That was
great, wasn't it."
[PATIENT NOD.]
"I don't know what
that's got to do
with Jeremiah's belt;
oh, yeah: the plastic.
Why did You make
him ruin that good
belt, Lord?
He was probably upset.
I don't understand?"
"Look, child."
"Yeah, okay.
I'm getting sleepy."
[NOD.]
"'Sorry, Lord.
I mean, about the
cursing."
[SILENCE.]
"I think I've
been babbling -
You know -
cuz' I feel
stupid."
"I understand."
"Thanks for the frog,
Lord."
[NOD.]
"An' the rest of it."
[NOD.]
"I stiill can't remember
her name. Darn', I'm
gettin' old!
(silence.)
It's on the tip of my
tongue. She was in
that movie about the
Stepford Wives."
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"WHAT was her name?"
[SMILE.]
(silence)
"KATHERINE ROSS!
THAT'S IT!"
[SMILE.]

I took the waistcloth from
the place where I had hidden it.
And behold, the waistcloth
was spoiled.......
Thus says the Lord:
Even so I will spoil the pride
of Judah...for as the waistcloth
clings to ....man, so I made the
whole house of Israel ....cling to Me
...that they might be for Me
a people......but they would not
listen.
[Jeremiah 13:7-11]
