If you were to count my years of ministry,
With each year as a page in a book;
The pages would add up to thirty-six,
If you were to take a look.
Twenty-eight pages as a Pastor,
Sharing the Good News and the Truth.
Two pages were in concert ministry,
And six pages working with the youth.

For the past few days I've been visiting,
The town I ministered to on page one.
In a few hours I will board the train,
And page one's visit will be done.
I discovered that some memories,
Over time my mind had re-arranged.
Other memories were still accurate,
But even then much had changed.

Some paragraphs on page one are painful,
Others record events that were sad.
There are sentences that are troubling,
Even some lines made me mad.
But I discovered on this visit to page one,
I can let the past be still,
Because I've found some precious memories,
And the once empty lines they fill.
