Faith
Where were you
when I laid the foundations
of the earth?
[Job 38:4]
***************************
"Lord, I'm sorry.
But, I'm just very disappointed
in You."
"Tell Me, child."
"No, Lord.
This isn't normal kvetching.
This is real disappointment!"
"Speak, and I will listen."
"Wait a minute;
I have to get my
country fried pork dinner
out'a the microwave."
"Ah, a Kosher dinner."
"But, Lord.......
remember that
part You said in .......eh,
You know...."
"Look, child."
"Yeah. It's in Acts;
I remember. It was
something about letting
down a big sheet.
Here it is:
Peter.....saw the heaven opened,
and something descending
like a great sheet,
let down by four corners
upon the earth.
In it were all kinds of animals...
..came a Voice to him,
Rise, Peter; kill and eat.
[Acts 10:9-13]
I bet Peter still felt
somewhat guilty about it,
Lord. I get a twinge, but
it's a long way from
Philadelphia."
"Very wise, child.
Now, what is this
disappointment you speak of."
"Well, You remember what
happened yesterday, Lord?"
"In what corner of the earth,
precious one?"
"Aw! Come on, Lord!
You know exactly what
I'm talkin' about!"
"One day you will learn to
speak to Me with reverence,
child."
"Oops."
"Yes. Perhaps,
now is the day."
"Oy."
"Well said.
Now, speak to Me,
again."
"Eh.....
that pork box was
way too salty, Lord.
Ech; the guilt wasn't
even worth it."
[NOD.]
"So, tell Me, child.
What has disappointed you?"
"Well, You know how I've
been ranting and raving
at You all day, about it."
[NOD.]
"Yes. Not even
a 'thank you'."
"I'm grateful, Lord!
But, You know.......
I really thought You'd
be working, like,
every minute in my life!
I mean, forget about it!"
"Forget what, child?"
"No, Lord. That's just
kind'a a Northeast saying:
You have to say it with
a Sopranos' accent:
You know:
"Just fa'get a'out it!"
"Ah. I see, child.
Very poetic."
"You're being kinda'
humorous today,
with me, Lord.
Aren't You?
Well, I'm being
very serious!"
"So am I, little one."
"Oy. Maybe,
I've been complaining,
too much. I'm sorry,
Lord; it's just my
nature. You know."
"And, what is My Nature,
child?"
"Uh.......eh......
That would sorta' fill
up a book, wouldn't it?
Did I just make a pun,
Lord? I didn't think I
was that smart."
"Tell Me, child.
What is My Nature?"
"I don't know, Lord!
Eh......uh, well......in Your
New Book, You did
a lot of teaching.
In the Old Part, You
did too - though it was
more......eh, kind of in
a Sopranos' sort of way."
[LAUGH.]
"So, You mean,
You like to teach, Lord?"
"Yes."
"But, LORD!
I'm 51 years old!
Aren't I past teaching?"
[SMILE.]
"No, child.
I've only just begun."

I will follow You
