TURN THE LIGHT ON!

In the 21st Century man has never had it so good! This is the age of awesome design, modern technology and spectacular invention. Post-modern civilization is one that has more time, more money and more choices to live life to the full, than at any other time in the history of civilisation.

Yet that picture of assumed happiness tells only half the story. One only has to read the newspaper headlines, speak to a friend or look even closer to home, at our own lives to recognise that all is not well!

World poverty, broken relationships, sickness and disease, anxiety, worry, hatred, emotional trauma, wars and rumours of wars, violence and natural disasters alike have taken their toll on the nations and their people throughout the world, without exception!

If you or I were to speak to someone suffering from depression, more often than not they will tell you that it feels like a dark cloud follows. Despite amazing advances in medicine and mental health care, depression still plagues western civilisation.

The age of the anti-depressant is alive, yet it has not stopped the suicides. Indeed, with or without the help of pharmaceuticals drugs, just one contemplating suicide is one too many! Many have lost hope and no longer live, but rather live to exist! Something is deeply wrong. Anyone with reasonable understanding can see something must change. This alleged darkness must be precluded. It is time friends, to turn on the light!

The question today, to you dear reader is; does the way seem dark to you? Have things in your life not gone the way you had planned them to? Have you experienced disappointment time and again? Or perhaps you have all the trappings of success yet you feel as though there is a dark cloud over you?

The bible tells us in Psalms 112:4 “To the upright there arises light in the darkness”.

Who are the upright, you say?
Well, the people of God, those who have chosen to accept Jesus Christ as their Personal Saviour.

But who is Jesus Christ, you ask?
Jesus Christ is the Son of God – He is God who became flesh and came to the earth over 2000 years ago and was crucified on the cross for our sins.

This was God’s plan. His Son took our curses on that cross so that we could be set free and receive eternal life. Nobody else could do it except the Son of God, Jesus Christ. It is written in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but shall have everlasting life”.

Matthew 5:14 tells us that, “Jesus is the light of the world”. Friend, God is offering you salvation today. He is offering you His light. Whatever the ‘dark’ circumstances of life may be God wants you to know that He has “commanded the light to shine out of darkness…” (2 Corinthians 3:6).

We were all born sinners and therefore, all of us are born into darkness – But God has made a way out for every person on the face of the earth. The bible tells us in Romans 6:23 that, “…the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”

So how do I receive eternal life you say?
Romans 10:13 tells us, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. When you call upon the Lord and ask Him into your life, He has promised that He will, “translate you out of darkness into His marvellous light” (1 Peter 2:9).

If you have heard the voice of God today speaking to you through this discussion and you would like to accept Jesus Christ as your Personal Saviour, pray the following prayer;

“Heavenly father, I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, who died on the cross and shed His blood for me for the remission of my sins. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and ask you to forgive me of all my sins, cleanse me from all unrighteousness and come into my life now Lord and fill me with your Holy Spirit… I now confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and saviour and declare that I am born again and a new creation, in Jesus name, amen.”

Hallelujah! Welcome into the Kingdom of God! You are now part of God’s Family. Pray to God everyday, just talk with him as you would your family or friends, and read your bible everyday. Ask God for wisdom to help you understand His Word. It is also important that God’s people meet together on a regular basis. Go to a church that God leads you to, one that believes in the baptism of the Holy Spirit – It is God's spirit that will now help you to live a victorious life!

Finally, the bible tells us in 1 John 4:7, 8. and 1 Corinthians 13:8 that God is love and love cannot fail, respectively. Jesus tells us that the greatest commandment is for us to love God with all our heart, all our mind and all our soul and to love our neighbours, as ourselves, (Matthew 22:37-39). The bible also tells us in Matthew 5:44 to, “love our enemies”.

Love is your light believer; let your light shine in the midst of this fallen world. Friend, may God continue to bless you now and always, Amen.
