That Woman, That Lady, That Love

(Based on the story of the sinful woman found in Luke 7:36 -50...Praise the Lord!)

That woman who is she?
And why does He entreat her?
That woman does He reckon that she
Is worthy of any honour?
Teacher, have nothing to do with her
She is wanton, wasteful and wrong
If I tell you of her you will be amazed
Her reputation is kitsch
And of surety, has long, long gone

That lady was strangely overwhelmed,
She wept from the depth of her heart
She cried - A lifetime of cycles of pain
A lifetime of no belonging
One that was classified ‘reject’
Branded, like buffalo Texan today
Every occasion was a flashing red light
Who would believe her?
What would be the point?
She knew not what she ought to say
To exist to be set apart
She was pitifully bare
She knew what it meant
To be without a lover…
A lover of her soul, of her spirit man
For the carnal gave her no cover

That love she was so desperate to have
She gave with every morsel of her might
It was somehow disturbing
Precisely tragic
Yet it was faith fighting a good fight
It was kindness and gentleness personified
A moment of unprompted truth
It was love paying tribute to love
From one who evidenced loves proof

That woman was that lady
That sought a special love
She must have known there was something more
She did not, ever give up
She searched frantically
For liberty’s open door
It was possible she had been to all the wrong places
Striving to be part of the crowd
Perhaps she entertained too many faces
Maybe she was just too loud
It was possible pain disallowed her to receive
What should have been rightfully hers
Maybe somewhere along the line
She herself had been deceived
Perhaps she had become unequally yoked
And the sinfulness of disunity broke her
Perhaps she owed and could not pay
Nobody knows…
But she sought the only one who could redeem her

And the Man, The one and only, her redeemer
He let her alone, he alone let her
She was free in his presence
To give and to show her love
To wash His feet
To open the Alabaster Box
To anoint Him with oil
And to receive His love
There would be no more defeat
I vindicate her was His unspoken response
She has my love
I justify her
She is my beloved
My love I give
And My love will replace
That chilly, hostile, vile, stigma
He said to the woman
“Thy faith have saved thee – go in peace”
For we are justified by faith and find peace in God through Jesus the Christ
His Glory was found in that she was bought with a price!

She now bore the name of her holy father
And she walked in assurance, heaven’s blessed assurance
That she is His and He is hers
I Am - her saviour, the only one,
Her ABBA, her Papa, her Father forever
