Bible Studies
Do you not know what these things mean?
[Ezekiel 17:12]
****************************
"Are there gonna' be Bible studies
in Heaven, Lord?"
"Do you study It on earth,
child?"
"Yeah. I HAVE been;
You know that."
"In It's entirety, child?"
"Well......sort of.
You know, Lord,
I don't think You should
have made It so long,
and wordy. Plus, I don't
understand all of the
poetic parts."
[PATIENT NOD.]
"Like this part:
Thus says the Lord God:
A great eagle with great wings
and long pinions, rich in
plumage of many colors
come to Lebanon and took the
top of the cedar;
he broke off the topmost
of its young twigs
and carried it to a land of trade,
and set it in a city of merchants.
[Ezekiel 17:3-4]
What's this about, anyway?
This whole part's too complicated,
and full of nature. I grew up
in west Philly."
"Yes. But, have you seen
an eagle, child?"
"Well, yeah. But, he was
in a zoo, and eating a big clump
of raw hamburger at the time.
He didn't seem interested in
twigs, OR merchandising."
[LAUGH.]
"You know how I got through
Shakespeare in high school,
Lord: Cliff Notes.
Why don't You write up
some for Your Book?"
"Because, sweet child,
My Book is for your
heart."
"Yeah, but what about my brain?"
"What about it?"
(laugh!)
(laugh!)
"Well, THAT'S the truth!
But, seriously, what about
all these riddles and parables?
Are You gonna' explain all this
stuff once we get to Heaven?"
[SILENCE.]
"Aw, come on! Are we gonna'
have, like, CLASSES? You're
not going to make me take
HEBREW, again, are You?"
"Perhaps."
"Ech! Neah, forget it, Lord.
I've already failed at that;
forget it. No way."
"Don't tempt Me, child."
"Alright! Okay!
Let's just forget about that!
(scared silence)
So? Are You gonna' teach
Bible up in Heaven, Lord?
Can I be in Your class?"
"You already are, child.
Haven't you been listening?"
******************************
But there was another great eagle
with great wings and much plumage;
and behold, this vine bent its roots
toward him, and shot forth its branches
toward him that he might water it.
From the bed where it was planted
he transplanted it to good soil by
abundant waters that it might
bring forth branches, and bear
fruit, and become a noble vine.
[Ezekiel 17:7-8]
