My dwelling place
Unaware that I have been taken on an exploration of my unconscious fantasies, I find myself drifting on a piece of wood in an ocean, apparently a result of a shipwreck. This is concluded by the vision of my ship gradually disappearing into a never-ending blue.
As I touch dry land I fall to my knees in search of rest. I turn to lie down but my head plops on a hard vase shaped object. Consumed with curiosity, I began to turn and observe the object, inadvertently rubbing its surface. To my surprise, a large gray form of presence appears before me slowly transforming into an erotic looking being. At first I am frightened, but I soon realize that it is a genie. The figure approaches me and confirms my suspicions. She reveals to me that she only exists to fulfill one wish for me. Immediately, I think how great it would be to have billions of dollars, but realize that I am in need of physiological and neurological rest. This is my wish.
I am almost drawn into a hypnotic state as I am taken to an arid and desolated land. The landscape is very rough and dry. The ground is covered with light and dark sand and soil. There are a variety of shapes and sizes that characterize the green plant life. As I observe the shapes and textures of the plants, they look and feel raspy and vine-like, but the others are stubborn and strong. I place one hand into the soil of these plants and on its petal. They both feel fry. I look toward my right and I see color, but very pale, saturated colors. This plant’s flowers’ colors are a pastel pink and purple. I look around and notice that it is the only of its kind. The sun shines freely, allowing the plants to grow outwardly rather than gravitating to their source of light. The temperature is almost 66 degrees with no humidity, as indicated by the genie as I walk around. There is no trace of wind or relief from the stillness. This region assigns a mood of abandonment; lifeless, death, and loneliness (Desert-not possessing enough vegetation to support human life). However, I do feel a sense of homeostasis or balance.
All of a sudden, a black cloud covers my vision for seconds until I arrive in a very humid and tropical like climate. The temperature is about 72 degrees, but is very muggy. This landscaping consists of plant life with very large and fan-like leaves unlike those of the desert. Most of the plant life is primarily green but many contain big petals and flowers decorated with bright and vibrant colors.
As I looked towards their roots, I can see the dampness of the soil. I gaze up and notice the trunks of the trees are very tall and thick, so much that many of the leaves restrict the amount of sunlight that shines. Like the desert, many of the plants evade definitive sizes, allowing them to spread and grow as they please. My attention is turned to the left. The beauty and sounds of flowing water capture me. The water leads me to a pier that permits me to observe the plants beyond the water. The dirty mossy water beneath the pier slightly lets me see the evergreen like plant life underwater. While relaxing on the pier, the bright and vibrant colors and sounds of flowing water, generates energy, adventure, and arousal. I am quickly interrupted, and beckoned to leave.
I am then returned to the shore, wherewith I landed. The genie appears to me. She utters, “Your wish, I have granted! I must return to my bottle to wait for my next master.” I hear a snap of fingers. I am awakened in my psychologist’s office on a couch. I shriek, I remember! Although, the desert and the tropical regions both contain green plant life, the sizes and shapes are uniquely different. I see vibrant colors that excite me in the tropical, but at the same time the pastel colors of the desert, return me to normalcy. The bright sunlight in the desert allowed me to grow outwardly, but it was slightly covered in the tropical region. This provided a momentary balance and calmness, but I am soon reminded of my unstable environment, when my nose began to drip.
The doctor assesses: “The human psyche craves tensions; arousal and adventure (the tropical). On the contrary, it seeks to return to a balance. Your therapy is over, for you have found your secret dwelling places; your loop hole and means of escape from this external world!” As I walk out the door, I feel refreshed!
