At its best, life is an uphill climb. Although life can be filled with moments of utter bliss and beautiful inspiration, it can often be filled with worries and disappointments which threaten the bliss and inspiration to pale in comparison to our struggles.

It's hard to understand why God allows valleys and the dark shadows that creep across our lives at times; often catching us unaware. While it is hard to understand God's reasoning, perhaps it could be simply enough for us to know that, while we do not understand, He does. It could be enough to remember that, since God is a God of love, He, like a parent, allows us experiences and hardships that will, in turn, teach us some important lesson He would have us learn, and which, in the end will help us grow in faith and trust in Him.

So, when the shadows fall; instead of giving in to the natural urge to run from them...to avoid them, perhaps simply sitting in the midst of them, accepting them as a lesson God wants us to learn, and quietly waiting until they pass, would be a better choice of dealing with them, as it would ease the stress of trying to struggle to change our situation.

In Luke 12:22-25 the Bible tells us, Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? (NIV)

Ultimately, no matter how much we worry over a situation, realistically, the situation won't go away; therefore, the only thing to do is to accept what is going on in our lives at this moment in time as the will of God...no matter how harsh or unfair it may seem; then, having accepted it, to sink to our trembling knees, bow our heads in the submission of faith, and let the rain of our problems and fears and sorrows fall where they will around us; remembering that rain doesn't last forever.
