Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday July 18, 2007

Do you as many others get a little sick of religion? Of course you do, but may I point out the what you and I get sick of is not true religion, but false or perverted religion. In my opinion the only proper religion is the one encased in the biblical truth of Christianity. Let me add as I did on Sunday evening past, "I have more hateful scars on my back from professing Christians, than from all of the bartenders I have ever known." The same is most likely true in your life if the truth be known. This does not mean that I think more of bartenders than I do Jesus, but the average Joe Christian I have known faces the real danger of coming in second to many bartenders I knew in years long gone. I'm sure Mrs. Russell Dennis Sr. could affirm that Christian leaders have treated her far worse than any bartender, though I doubt that she even knows a bartender.

So is the above a justifiable argument for throwing out religion and just insisting that each person have it their way, and as in the days of ancient Judges of Israel, "every man do that which is right in their own eyes?" Far be it from me to suggest such a travesty against God's creatures.

Part of the old Communist agenda, was the abolition of all rules so that man could live in his pristine natural splendor, in utter chaos and imbibe of the fruits of passion with no religious regard to morals, morals simply meaning the slogan from the Australian Outback, no rules. In order to move closer to this goal, religion would have to be banned, totally even to the point of being obliterated from even the memory. I often wonder if our court system in the United States is not on the same journey.

Will and Ariel Durant, husband wife team with Will having served as a professor at Columbia University, stated in their book, "The Lesson Of History," page 50:

"There is no significant example in history before our time, of a society successfully maintaining moral life without the aid of religion."

I add that since the demise of Will and Ariel, they died within a month of each other, he at age 96, there has not been a successful society without the aid of religion. The primary reason, though admittedly the concept of communism has so many primary reasons for its ultimate failure, is the attempt to abolish all and any form of religion. There is no focal point for people to grasp if the Hegelian concept of the State being God walking around on the earth. In Soviet Russia the state attempted to replace God and the morals of the country went Kaput, yet the current foolish leadership seems bound to try again.

On the meaning of religion Webster states, "probably from religare to tie back, tie up, tie fast" What those who wish to throw away religion think this means is that true religion keeps you from living life to its fullest, when the opposite is true. Life at its fullest is not Bohemian, but ordered with commitments to God, or a god and deep respect for others, especially those within the group. Small sects have their commitments to each other and in religious America a moral commitment to others. Most relgious groups have fidelity to and for each member of the group. Christianity extends moral respect to all people, all of God's creaton.

Upon their acceptance into the lodge Masons make a pledge to never commit adultery with a fellow Mason's wife or daughter. Christians make this commitment in a much broader scope by accepting the moral standard of fidelity to their wife alone, thus ensuring the moral safety of everyone's wife or daughter. Tragically in our time this moral pledge is given only lip service if at all. I trust the Lord Jesus will send a revival of true, moral religion.

Larry,
Unfortunately, the Bible tells us with its unerring predictions that we are on the endangereed species list. The world will be increasingly filled with hatred and violence, devoid of any compassion, respect for authority or anything else for that matter. The world's religions will be, and are already becoming increasingly apostate. The church of Philadelphia is described in a pitiful state, hanging on by our fingernails. I don't see much revival in the picture.
Excuse the pessimistic viewpoint, but come soon Lord Jesus.
Austin
