Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday July 17, 2007

I usually browse the morning news and watch for a headline to grab my attention. After all that’s what headlines are supposed to do. It's amazing the ideas I get from this practice of a lifetime, now made light years simpler due to the advent of the Internet.

Last week as I browsed I noticed that yet another Hollywood type has "turned to God." I no longer get giddy when I read or hear such as over the long course of my life I have seen and even used my share of "Hollywood clergy persons." I do think that due to this latest conversion from actress to preacher, many other Thespians, trapped in the lifestyle of Sitcom star or even struggling unknown, will find deliverance. Hallelujah, pass the hat.

The current wonder delivered from the entrapment of the small screen is from a very influential Hollywood family as her father was the prime mover in several super hits, Aaron Spelling, produced such hits as "Dynasty," "The Love Boat," Love Boat produced at least one clergyperson, and the deeply spiritual "Charlie’s Angels." Now daddy's sweet little girl has taken up the cross, the old family Bible, bought a tent and is hitting the saw dust trail. I feel it in my old bones, she certainly will make the Haute and share her tremendous faith with us here who live in what another famous Hollywood seer called, "The Arm Pit's of The Nation." Steve Martin really felt this way about our town until he personally visited our out of this world Laundromats. Now enter Tori Spelling. Opps, pardon, The Rev. Tori Spelling.

What can I say? Even before her mail order credentials arrived she was performing her very first wedding ceremony! I can only imagine the gushing joy of this historic gala.

Get me right I have just a little problem with women preachers, mostly due to the fact that I have been married to an un-ordained one for forty three years. I know at least one sinner she has kept towing the line. It is near impossible to imagine her influence if she bore the "Rev" title.

The newly frocked Reverend while awaiting her paper proof went ahead under the auspices of whatever group put their stamp on her, certainly with the Spelling name they would have paid her including postage, the girl joined in the Holy Estate of Matrimony, a couple who have pledged to forever sail The Seas of Matrimonial Bliss as one. Tony and Dex, both of whom wear loafers that last for many years due to the lightness with which they wear them, pledged their troth at the Bed and Breakfast owned by Tori and her husband.

Can you even begin to comprehend the ecstatic joy of Tori, daddy's little girl, as she officiated at her first wedding, had the mind boggling privilege of joining two Gay's as one? And Tori is off and preaching, gushing out her message which, alas, shall soon boom forth from more traditional voices and venues, "Don't ever let anyone tell you who to love. Only our hearts can dictate that." I predict the imminent displacing of Rick Warren, as now Rev. Tori has a Purpose Driven Crusade. And what of the nerve of God, taking pages in the Bible to tell us who and what kind of person to love. Wait til Tori sees Him!
