Poetry
As a peace officer,
You see it all.
Unfortunately you see more of the bad and ugly
You see the young prostitute walking the street.
Someone’s daughter, once pure and sweet.
You see the old man with a wine bottle in a paper sack.
Wonder what he could be if time could roll back.
The radio crackles and you answer the call.
Two kids steal a car, now they are headed for juvenile hall.
Domestic in progress, when you arrive
She’s badly beaten, but alive.
Suspicious activity in the alley behind.
A young man wandering aimlessly, drugs have fried his mind.
2 Vehicle accident at ninth and main.
A heap of metal and junk is all that remain.
Blood and broken bodies litter the ground.
Evidence of alcohol impairment is found.
Yes, you see it all and wonder where is the good.
Then you see the good Samaritan render aid.
You see the volunteer respond without being paid.
Teary-eyed parents are united with a lost child.
A closed case is filed.
A found wallet, is turned in by a young lad
Later claimed by an out of work dad.
You spot a flower or two growing in a vacant lot among the weeds.
They grew where planted as seeds.
Even though bad and ugly abound,
There is good to be found, just look around.

Devonn, that was a great poem. Gave me the chills and I loved it! You did a great job of creating the picture for the audience--very easy to see. Thank you! lol I only found two things that you might like to change. They were in the same line, in fact. "A young man wondering aimlessly". That should actually be "wandering"--wondering refers to thinking, but I'm sure you know that. ;) The other thing was "drugs has fried his mind." The "has" should be "have". It's the tense thing. lol Those two mistakes didn't take away from the poem in any way(it was great), I just thought I'd let you know. Keep up the great writing. I really enjoyed it. --Whitney
My mistake--it's not the tense thing, it's actually the singular/plural thing. lol Since "drugs" is plural, "has" needs to be plural, which would be "have". Silly me! --Whitney again
