Poetry
I have drank of the cup of bitterness and woe.
And by the waves of the sea I’ve been tossed to and fro.
I’ve lain among devils, shared bread with vile beasts.
Among sinners and saints I’ve been least of the least.
But I know You, Savior. By Your blood I’m redeemed,
a friend to Jesus, The Rock. Upon that Rock I lean,
laying every burden and worrisome thing
upon my Salvation. It is to You I sing:
Oh, Rock of Salvation, it is true; I am Thine,
bought with the price of blood, a sacrifice divine.
I surrender all things unto Your perfect will.
Guide me, Light of my path, Your purpose to fulfill.
When I lay down to die, when my time here is done,
when Christ and His Body have finally become
One in heaven and earth and all else is shaken,
let it remain that I gave more than I’ve taken.
For I have taken much in the years before You
rescued my soul from hell, brought me faithfully through
to stand here before You, unworthy of Your touch.
Let me be blessed that I might bless others as much.
You know that I would do it all over again;
I would suffer double for my every sin,
and drink the cup of suffering at Your command.
Yet, I hope for mercy and the touch of Your hand.
In my suffering, let me be one to rejoice.
Let me praise Your holy Name and praise You by choice,
looking forward to joy surely set before me,
never fearing the enemies that abhor me.
Lord, when I surrendered my life into Your hands,
I found there’s an adversary roaming this land.
He’d love nothing more than to destroy and to kill
every hope I have for accomplishing Your will.
So, it is for Your Name’s sake I pray for Your touch.
Lord, as Your representative, please bless me much
so that all those who see me and knew me before
will find hope in my Savior. Jesus, open the door,
the door of my blessings, stored in heaven for me,
the anointing that causes those blind eyes to see.
Let this new cup be poured out in me full measure,
a new cup for me, yet, it is an ancient treasure:
Anointing of God, the greatest treasure of all,
I’d be richer than kings if on me it would fall,
fall like rain upon my head. Like the latter rain,
most valuable gift for the Kingdom of Heaven’s gain.
I want all those who see me to see You as well.
I so want them to know in whose shadow I dwell.
For this, I pray my cup overflows by Your grace,
that in my time here, a multitude would seek Your face.
