I went out for a walk today,
my imagination went astray
what new things would I see?

I imagined a wood, all light and dark,
with grass so green, like a park,
it seemed to be inviting me

There at the entrance, on a tree,
hung a lovely golden key,
for what unseen lock could it be?

I wandered among flowers all the day,
where squirrels and birds came to play,
I danced and felt set free!

There to the side I saw a box,
made of wood, with a golden lock.
I knew it would match my key!

Black birds attacked me all around,
they didn't want this box to be found,
but they fled when I held up the key.

I sank to my knees right beside it,
would my key be the one to fit,
and inside, what would I see?

The key went it, turned smooth and sound,
and I knew a treasure I had found,
but was it meant for me?

I opened the lid and looked inside,
what treasure of gems did it hide?
waiting to be set free?

A single page lay inside, folded in threes
I could see the words, what would they be?
I couldn't wait to see!

The words said 'you are my child, whom I love'
signed by your Father from above,
oh, yes, this treasure was for me!

Then I knew just what I must do,
make my own tiny box, all brand new,
and give it just to you.

I fashioned it myself with loving care,
and with God's help, put all my love there,
love so deep and true.

Now each day I bring my gift to you,
all rainbows and flowers of every hue,
all to say "I LOVE YOU"!

God gives me new joys every day,
He shows me what to do and say,
to show my love so true.

The key that opens the treasure box,
that opens the lovely golden lock,
is my heart that I give to you.

The treasure is ours, it is so clear,
I'll whisper it to you, softly in your ear,
It is that "I LOVE YOU!"

This is a lovely treasure in itself, as are you! I love this poetry form. You've worked it well.
