Gospel
Well done,
good and faithful servant;
you have been faithful
over a little,
I will set you over much;
enter into the joy
of your Master.
[Matthew 25:21]
**********************
"Lord?"
"Yes, My child?"
"Uh, oh. What did I
do, now?"
[SMILE.]
"Seriously, Lord;
What does this Scripture
mean, anyway. I never
heard about it, when I
was growing up. Jews
don't say this part."
[SILENCE.]
"Lord? What: did
Your other cell phone ring?"
"I don't use these things,
child."
"Well, I don't know how
You keep track of it all.
Anyhow, I don't really
think this is very fair."
"What is that, child?"
"This Scripture:
about being the good
servant, and all."
"Ah. I see."
"It's just not fair.
I mean, how are we
supposed to KNOW
if we're being a
servant, at all?
By the time, we get
up to....well, up THERE,
we haven't got time
to change, and, well -
like, DO whatever it was
that You wanted us to DO."
[NOD.]
"Well? How are
we gonna' know
what You want us
to do? Suppose
You don't tell us,
clearly enough?
To be honest,
I don't hear You
very well, at all."
"Why not, My precious?"
[shrug]
"I don't know, Lord.
You're not speaking in
Hebrew to me, are You?"
[SMILE.]
"Cuz' You know what
a disaster that was....
when I was growing up.
Oy. I did better in
gym class - and THAT
was even worse!"
[NOD.]
"So? What do
You think, Lord?"
[SILENCE.]
"You're thinkin' I'm being
silly, aren't You?
Well, I'm very serious,
Lord. I don't like it;
some folks know what
You want them to do
at age, like, five -
and some of us get
to 51 - for example,
and have not a clue
about anything."
[LAUGH.]
"Well, I'm serious!
I don't know what
You want me to do!
I can't sing, so that's
out. I could never
be a missionary -
not with that throwing-up
problem on airplanes....
forget THAT."
[SMILE.]
"And, I like to write,
but my ryhming is
really bad. Plus,
I can't play anything,
unless You count those
five tortourous years
of piano lessons;
that was almost as
bad as Hebrew school."
"And your spelling, little one?"
"Oh. Yeah. Wait a
sec - You're right, Lord:
it's 'rhyming'."
[NOD.]
"So? What should
the rest of us do -
when we haven't a
clue?
(silence.)
Hey; look at that, Lord:
I rhymed!"
[NOD.]
"What should you do,
child?"
"I don't KNOW, Lord!
How can I be a good
servant ......let alone,
a faithful one? What
is it You want me to
DO, anyway, Lord?
WHAT? WHAT?"
"Follow Me, child.
Just follow Me."
**************************
If anyone serves Me,
he must follow Me;
and where I am,
there shall My servant be also;
if any one serves Me,
the Father will honor him.
[John 12:26]
