(Author's note: 'Nu?' in
Yiddish is 'So? Well? What
about it?' 'Kvetching' means
- oh, you figure it out.)

What profit do we get
if we pray to Him?
[Job 21:15]
**************************
"Nu?"

"About what, child."

"About - YOU know
what I'm talkin' about,
Lord! You haven't answered
my prayers, at ALL!"

"Ah, I see."

"In fact, the stuff I pray
about: it seems as though
You just turn around,
and make it WORSE!"

"What does My Word
teach you, child?"

"Oh; You mean this part:

For My thoughts
are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways
My ways,
says the Lord.
[Isaiah 55:8]

"I've almost got that
part memorized, Lord."

"Good, child.
Very good."

"No! It's not
good at all!"

[RUMBLE.]
"OH?
WHAT WAS THAT, child?"

[silence]
"Well, no.
It's not like that,
Lord. But, I
didn't really think
Your Word
applied to ME."

[SMILE.]
"All of It is
for you, My child."

"Well, anyway,
back to my kvetching.
So? What about it,
Lord? Are You gonna'
answer my little, piddly
prayers, or WHAT?"

[SILENCE.]

"It's not like I'm
asking for gold, or
silver, or anything.
I mean, really....
it's so
insignificant,
compared to
global warming,
the gas prices,
and, You know,
like, world peace,
and stuff."

"You are very
significant to Me,
child."

[shrug]
"Yeah. I guess.
WELL?"

"Well what, child."

"MY PRAYERS, LORD!
MY PRAYERS! Don't
You HEAR them?
WELL? DON'T YOU?"

"I hear everything, child."

"Well, I don't know what
You're doin' up There,
anyway."

"I am right here, My beloved."

"Then You'd see what
was goin' on, Lord!
I don't UNDERSTAND!"

"I see everything, child.
And, I understand YOU
very well."

"Ech! I don't want to
be understood! But,
Lord, I wouldn't mind
havin' my prayers
answered - at least,
every once in a WHILE."

"Child, child."

"What, Lord?
What is it?
Why should I keep
praying to You?"

"My precious child,
I AM the Answer
to your prayers."
**************************
Be still.
And, know
that I am God.
[Psalm 46:10]
